Modern town, surrounded by Mediterranean plants, represents the largest tourist-nautical center on the entry to the Adriatic Sea.
The area of Bar is situated in the south-east of Montenegro on the Adriatic coast and it takes the area of 505 square kilometres. The coast is 46km long out of which beaches are 9km long, while on the other side Skadar Lake shore that also belongs to Bar is 65km long. The climate here is conditioned by the two large water surfaces (Adriatic Sea and Skadar Lake) and also by the mountain Rumija massif. Long, warm and dry summers and mild and rainy winters are characteristic for Bar. Maximum approximate temperature in July is 23, 5°C, while the minimal in January is 8, 3°C. Bathing season lasts from the mid May to the mid October, when the seawater temperature rises to 26°C.

This area is known for its multinational and multiconfessional population structure with very high standards of tolerance in the relations among people who live here. A good tradition of living here together is atypical for the Balkans, and it has not been jeopardised through the history regardless of many political and state turbulences. The interesting features of this population are microlocalities that differ and that may be seen in the various folk costumes. Thus, for example, there are many folk costume that are rare in other areas of Montenegro. The definition "The Harmony through Diversities" might, in short, characterise the population from Bar municipality.
