The preserved remains of Onogošt are situated on the top and at the foot of a rocky hill in the southeastern part of Nikšić Plain. Anderba, Sanderva, Anagastum and Onogošt are all names of the same, still relatively unexplored location.
The establishing of this town is related to the existence of the Roman castrum, which was destroyed in the invasion of the barbarians. With the arrival of the Eastern Goths, the ruins of the Roman castrum were reconstructed. The town existed under the Slavs and later, under Turkish rule.
The town consisted of two parts: remains of the Lower Town with five towers located on the plain, and the Upper Town structure with six towers. The entire town was surrounded by walls.
Part of the eastern tower was preserved while the western part of the fortress has been assimilated into the surrounding scenery.
