Mount Orjen occupies an area of over 400 square kilometers, the majority of which belongs to Montenegro, a much smaller area to Bosnia and Herzegovina (Bosnian Serb Republic), and with a peripheral part belonging to Croatia. Although not a high mountain, Orjen gives an impression of height due to its relief. Numerous ridges branch out from the main peak, in an almost radial direction, forming the Crkvicki, Vrbanjski and Zubacki areas of Bijela Gora.
Almost the whole of Montenegro can be seen from Mount Orjen, including Prokletije, Lovcen and Durmitor. Hercegovina, Popovo Polje, the Dubrovnik coast and the southernmost Dalmatian island can also be seen from Orjen. Lake Bilecko can be seen in the distance.
