The church is mentioned in the written documents from the beginning of the 16th century, as an important spiritual and cultural centre with its famous schools for transcribing, writing, frescoes and painting. The famous painter Strahinja Budimljanin who decorated a large number of churches and monasteries with his frescoes came from this school. One of the oldest written monuments that was created in Šudikova is the "Collected Works of the Holy Fathers", which is today kept in the Holy Trinity Monastery in Pljevljia. The Metropolitan of Budim – Gerasim wrote his famous "Menaion" in 1573, which is kept in the National Library in Belgrade. Twenty years later, Hieromonch Danilo wrote "Psalter", which is now in Vienna, while in 1602, Deacon Mihailo wrote "Book of Prayer", which is kept in the library of Count Uvarov in Moscow.
